Join the empathetic and professional team at the Specialist Care Dementia Unit as a Senior Occupational Therapist!

The SCDU is a federal initiative in partnership with the state or territory governments in supporting care of residents in approved residential aged care facilities, who provide specialist care to people living with BPSD and are unable to be supported in main- stream residential aged care. 

The Senior Occupational Therapist provides in-reach to the Hammond Care Specialist Care Dementia Unit (SCDU), which will provide support to patients with memory loss and Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) to develop and action patient centred management plans to support patient well-being.  

About the role: 

As the Senior Occupational Therapist, your duties for the role will include:

  • Providing Occupational Therapy services to patients of the Specialist Care Dementia Unit, assessing patient's occupational abilities, problems and needs using a variety of assessments methods
  • Developing Behaviour Support Plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, the person and their family
  • Developing and implementing person-centred sensory modulation intervention for patients.
  • Providing a consultative service to other team members, disciplines and agencies

About you:

  • Broad experience and clinical expertise in the provision of clinical Occupational Therapy services (assessment and treatment) to patients with complex needs and the older person including those with cognitive impairment or a diagnosis of dementia
  • Experience in developing Behaviour Support Plans
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills including the ability to communicate with patient, professional staff of different disciplines, and staff of other agencies
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical management and leadership within a discrete unit, including program evaluation and service development
