About the Role

As the Hepatobiliary Fellow, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality patient care within the specialised Hepatobiliary Unit. Working under the supervision of the Head of Unit and senior consultant staff, you will be actively involved in the management of complex hepatobiliary cases as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role offers extensive exposure to both elective and emergency hepatobiliary surgery, enhancing your clinical and operative skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students, fostering their professional development. You will also be encouraged to initiate and contribute to research projects within the unit, supporting ongoing innovation and evidence-based practice. This position provides an excellent opportunity to further develop your subspecialty expertise while contributing to service excellence and academic advancement.

About You

You are a skilled and motivated medical professional with strong clinical expertise, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. Your leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills enable you to effectively support patient management, mentor junior staff, and contribute positively to a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • MBBS or equivalent, registrable with AHPRA, with clinical skills appropriate to hepatobiliary surgery.

  • Proven ability to supervise, direct, and support staff while maintaining strong professional relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage clinical services and resolve challenges effectively.

  • Sound knowledge of hospital systems, policies, procedures, workplace health and safety, and the structure and functions of a large healthcare environment.
