About the Role:
Mental illness impacts a large proportion of our population, and recovery is a key part of the role of mental health nurses. As a Registered Nurse with the North East Community Mental Health team at the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), you'll meet people where they are, delivering care that genuinely shapes lives across Adelaide's northern suburbs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing assessment, case management, and recovery-oriented nursing care to adults living with mental illness in a community setting through the Modbury Adult Service
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and review individualised care plans
- Supporting consumers and their families or carers to build resilience, self-management, and connection to community resources
- Contributing to clinical handover, documentation, and risk assessment in line with NALHN Mental Health Service standards
What You'll Bring
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA, meeting the criteria for RN1 or RN2C classification under the SA Health Nursing and Midwifery Enterprise Agreement
- Experience or demonstrated interest in mental health nursing, community-based care, or psychosocial rehabilitation
- Confidence in conducting mental state examinations, risk assessments, and safety planning
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage sensitively with consumers experiencing complex presentations
- A current, unrestricted South Australian driver's licence — community work means community travel
- Commitment to recovery-oriented practice and trauma-informed care as reflected in the SA Mental Health Services Plan
To be eligible for this position, you must be
- Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing/Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and who holds a current practicing certificate.
- Must be enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or holds a qualification in mental health practice

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:
NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.
