About the role

The Senior Speech Pathologist provides advanced assessment services for infants, children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental differences, delivering high-quality, family-centred care. The role functions as a specialist clinician within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to assessment, diagnosis and intervention planning. The incumbent also provides clinical leadership, supervision and supports continuous quality improvement.

Key duties of the role

• Provides specialist speech pathology assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based recommendations for children with complex developmental differences within a multidisciplinary team.
• Provides culturally responsive, family-centred support and expert guidance to families regarding assessment pathways, funding options, intervention services and resources, promoting equitable access and informed decision-making for children and young people.
• Contributes to a positive, safe and collaborative workplace culture by demonstrating professional conduct, effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution skills and commitment to ongoing learning and development.
• Provides professional leadership and specialist clinical expertise in speech pathology, supporting high-quality service delivery, workforce development, clinical supervision, mentoring, education and continuous professional improvement within the Child Development Unit.
• Provide a consultancy service in the planning and implementation of research projects where applicable.

 Skills and Experience

• Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia
• Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience as a paediatric Speech Pathologist, including complex developmental assessments
• Demonstrated experience in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Proven ability to provide specialist clinical leadership, supervision, education and multidisciplinary team support
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice, quality standards, risk management and person/family-centred care
