Plastic Surgery Senior Medical Practitioner | Southern Adelaide Local Health Network

Join the Plastic Surgery – Skin Cancer team at Flinders Medical Centre as a Senior Medical Practitioner in a part-time, fixed-term contract role through to October 2027. Based within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, you'll deliver specialised surgical care to skin cancer patients as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team at one of South Australia's leading tertiary hospitals. This is a focused, flexible opportunity for an experienced specialist looking to contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes in a well-supported public health setting.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, you will assess, diagnose, and surgically manage skin cancer presentations at Flinders Medical Centre, collaborating closely with plastic surgery, dermatology, and oncology colleagues to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Working harmoniously with all members of the clinical team,
  • Providing appropriate specialist level care to patients,
  • Coordinating the follow up care of patients,
  • Providing clinical supervision to Senior Medical Practitioners, Trainee Medical Officers and Medical Students,
  • Contributing to an after-hours on-call service in accordance with a roster agreed by the Department Director,
  • Providing appropriate direction and supervision to registrars, resident medical officers and interns,
  • Participating in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner,
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in diagnosis and management of skin cancer and other skin lesions,
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, leadership and motivational skills,
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team,
  • Demonstrated participation in approved continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification,
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement,
  • No less than 5 years of experience as a Medical Practitioner and be able to work with limited or no direction/supervision and exercise a high-level of professional judgement and clinical competence, in a multi-disciplinary setting,
  • Experience in a broad range of medical fields relevant to the practice of Senior Medical Practitioner – Skin Cancer in the Unit of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
