As an Advanced Carer Consultant with SALHN's Noarlunga Psychosis team, you'll bring lived or professional carer experience into a role that directly shapes how the service supports families and carers. Working part time on an ongoing basis, you'll consult alongside clinicians, advocate for carer needs, and build the community connections that help carers feel seen and supported. This is a meaningful opportunity to turn personal or professional understanding of the carer journey into real, lasting impact within South Australia's public health system.

About the role:

Reporting to the Team Manager, Care Consultants draw on their own lived experience of supporting someone with mental health challenges, navigating service use and journey of recovery, to support others through a non-clinical relationship based on equity, credibility, mutuality, hope, and empowerment.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Being available to family/carers/kin throughout a consumer’s episode of care to actively support and ‘hear their story’,
  • Promote community acceptance and reduction of stigma for people living with a mental illness,
  • Providing carer/family/kin lived experience, skills and strategies to promote family based recovery,
  • Provide a perspective to the team from someone that has personally engaged with mental health services as a Carer,
  • Work from a Carer Peer Work (PW) values and principles based practice to support people in their own homes and the community to progress towards individual goals and aspirations,
  • Promote a relationship-centred approach, recognising individuals within the context of their family and support networks

About you:

  • Skills in building connected and authentic trusting relationships with Carers,
  • Strong advocacy and partnership building skills to apply in a clinical mental health environment working within multidisciplinary teams,
  • Personal lived experience of providing care to someone with mental health challenges and recovery,
  • Understanding and/or experience of the challenges associated with experiencing psychosis and the implications for personal recovery,
  • Lived experience of interfacing with mental health services as a Carer,
  • Experience in advocating for oneself and others experiencing symptoms related to or defined as psychosis,
  • Experience in broader lived experience advocacy and representation
