About the role

The Senior Sleep Technician provides specialised technical support within the Children's Sleep Disorders Unit, delivering high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies for neonates, children, and young people. The role is responsible for analysing and scoring sleep studies, maintaining specialised equipment, supporting quality assurance activities, managing clinical records, and assisting with the training of junior staff and students. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the position requires participation in a rotating roster, including overnight, afternoon, set-up, and day shifts, to meet clinical service demands.

Key duties of the role

  • Safely conducting sleep studies (PSG), using computerised physiological data acquisition and recording equipment.
  • Under medical direction, implementing therapeutic treatment protocols to treat sleep-related breathing disorders with supplementary oxygen or non-invasive ventilation.
  • Provide quality assurance, equipment maintenance, administrative support, and assist in the training of staff and students to support the effective operation of the Sleep Disorders Unit.
  • Perform analysis and basic interpretation of sleep studies, identify abnormal results, and ensure investigations meet quality and safety standards while supporting clinical staff.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the correct and safe operation and maintenance of all sensors, equipment and instrumentation in the Sleep Disorders Unit.
  • Support and actively participate in a positive and innovative team work culture and promote safe work practices within the Sleep Disorders Unit.

Skills and Experience

  • Diploma/Advanced Diploma in a relevant technical discipline or Bachelor degree/higher qualification in Medical Science, Biomedical Science, Clinical Physiology, Health Science, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in sleep studies, clinical testing procedures, or a related technical healthcare environment
  • Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Knowledge of human physiology, safe work practices, and quality standards in clinical testing
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse information, solve problems, communicate effectively, and work with limited supervision
