About the role

Provides perioperative nursing care in Instrument and Circulating Nurse roles, supporting Orthopaedic surgical services on a seven-day rotating roster. Delivers safe, high-quality patient care, manages clinical needs for Orthopaedic lists, and supports leadership, staff development, and unit operations.

Key duties of the role

  • Provides clinical leadership and oversees the delivery of safe, person-centred nursing care, ensuring quality patient outcomes and effective patient flow.
  • Supports the Nurse Unit Manager with operational management, workforce coordination, resource allocation, budgeting, and service planning.
  • Leads and fosters a positive team culture focused on collaboration, customer service, safety, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports staff development through clinical teaching, mentoring, supervision, and facilitating professional learning opportunities.
  • Contributes to quality improvement, research, clinical auditing, change management, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered Nurse eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, holding or eligible to hold a current practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience in perioperative scrub/scout nursing, delivering safe, high-quality care aligned with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills, with experience supporting students and less experienced nurses.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Sound knowledge of healthcare legislation, professional standards, quality improvement, risk management, work health and safety, and person- and family-centred care principles.
