About the role

  • The Midwifery Educator-student facilitation provides clinical education and learning leadership to support midwifery student learning and workforce capability within practice environments across the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN).
  • Working directly in clinical areas, the Midwifery Educator-student facilitation facilitates student learning through coaching, role modelling, and structured education/learning, enabling the integration of theory into practice with a strong focus on women and family-centred care.
  • In partnership with clinical teams, educators, and academic providers, this role supports student supervision, strengthens student capability building, and fosters safe, collaborative learning environments that enhance student experience.

Key duties of the role

  • Lead and coordinate midwifery student placements 
  • Facilitate student learning through coaching, teaching, and role modelling
  • Monitor and manage student progress, performance, and safety concerns
  • Support and develop clinicians in student supervision and assessment
  • Collaborate with education providers and clinical leaders to optimise student learning environment for good learning outcomes
  • Lead quality improvement, governance, and evaluation of student facilitation
  • Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Midwife or Midwife/Nurse with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience with demonstrated competence in the relevant area of Nursing/ Midwifery practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitation midwifery students, with advanced clinical teaching, coaching and facilitation skills in the clinical learning environment.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to engage all stakeholders and partnership - building skills
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills across diverse groups.
