WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?
The Senior Claims Consultant is responsible for coordinating, managing and continuously improving injury management programs across regional Local Health Networks, ensuring best practice workers compensation outcomes in line with the Return to Work Act 2014. This role provides expert determination and management of complex claims, including legal, medical and financial decision-making, while working closely with executives, clinicians, unions and legal representatives to reduce the human and financial impact of workplace injury.
Operating across multiple regional LHNs, the role provides high-level consultancy and strategic advice to strengthen injury management culture and capability, particularly in rural and remote settings. It also involves mentoring staff, leading training and education initiatives, contributing to policy development, and driving continuous improvement, project work and system-wide enhancements to ensure equitable, efficient and compliant injury management services.
WHO ARE WE?
The RSS is a business unit in SA Health that delivers a range of enabling services, such as workforce planning and recruitment, digital health, finance, infrastructure, procurement, and clinical governance support. Our purpose is to strengthen and sustain healthcare delivery in rural and regional areas by providing consistent, efficient, and specialist support functions to the six regional local health networks (LHNs) across South Australia. We employ around 260 people who work in 37 regional, rural and remote SA locations, or in the RSS's three Adelaide offices.

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?
You will……….
- Lead and coordinate injury management and workers compensation claims across multiple regional Local Health Networks in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
- Assess, determine and manage complex claims, including medical, legal and financial aspects, to ensure appropriate outcomes and compliance with the Return to Work Act 2014.
- Provide expert advice and consultancy to senior leaders, HR, WHS teams, unions, legal representatives and external providers on injury management and return to work strategies.
- Lead resolution of complex and sensitive cases, including representation at SA Employment Tribunal and negotiation of claim settlements where appropriate.
- Drive continuous improvement in injury management systems, policy, training and practice while mentoring staff and supporting capability development across the team.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Can you demonstrate extensive knowledge of the Return to Work Act 2014 and confidently apply legal precedent when managing complex workers compensation claims?
- Are you able to make sound, defensible decisions in high-pressure situations involving medical, legal and financial complexity across multiple stakeholders?
- Do you have the capability to influence senior leaders, clinicians, unions and legal representatives to achieve fair, compliant and cost-effective injury management outcomes?
- Can you proactively identify and resolve barriers to return to work in challenging regional and rural environments, including limited service availability and workforce constraints?
- Are you able to mentor, educate and lead others while driving continuous improvement in injury management systems, policy and practice across multiple LHNs?
