As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month placement will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

Advanced Neonatal Trainees provide specialised inpatient and outpatient care for newborns in NICU and Special Care, while developing management, teaching and research skills. The role includes consultant-supported clinical leadership, junior staff supervision and participation in evidence-based neonatal care.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide specialised inpatient and outpatient neonatal care, including assessment, treatment and follow-up of complex patients.
  • Manage neonatal and paediatric emergencies and perform clinical procedures under consultant supervision.
  • Coordinate investigations, interpret results and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Support teaching, supervision and development of junior medical staff and participate in education programs.
  • Contribute to research, clinical audit, quality improvement and family-centred patient care.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent with eligibility for General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience in neonatal medicine appropriate to the role.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, solve problems and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Commitment to family-centred care, continuous improvement and responsiveness to feedback and quality standards.
