Dietetic Assistant Wanted - Support Patient Care with SALHN! 

As a Dietetic Assistant with SALHN, you'll play a vital role in supporting our Dietitians to deliver exceptional nutrition care. Your key responsibilities include supporting patients on complex therapeutic diets, assisting with menu planning, and educating patients at risk of malnutrition. This position offers flexibility to balance your work and personal life while making a meaningful impact on the well-being of South Australians.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Manager of Dietetics & Nutrition, some of your duties as the Allied Health Assistant may involve: 

  • Translating meal plans prepared by dietitians into patients’ food requirements and using the Menu management Foodservice system to order meals on a daily basis.
  • Prioritising tasks to meet deadlines for Foodservice reports, preparation and delivery.
  • Using patient record management systems to check patient information, record new admissions, discharges and ward transfers.
  • Using the electronic patient record systems and foodservice system to update patient diet orders
  • Bringing to the attention of the unit dietitian, patients who are not ordering appropriately and not consuming enough.

This role attracts a fixed allowance that ensures a minimum salary equivalent to AHA2 (third increment) pro-rated, based on the Undertaking as within the Allied Health Professionals, Assistants and Psychologists Enterprise Agreement 2025.

About you:

  • Hold a Cert III in Allied Health Assistant or have equivalent experience and training. 
  • Clear aptitude for working in a healthcare setting and with people from a variety of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience working in a Dietetic and Nutrition Department or Food Service Environment. 
  • Experience using menu management systems. 
  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop areas of practice under the guidance of the supervising Allied Health Professional.
