    • As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month Paediatric Chief Resident placement will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Chief Resident Paediatrics has a leadership role within the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) and advocates for Trainee Medical Officers (TMO’s) by participating on internal and external committees and meetings. The role includes pastoral care, education and teaching activities, workforce planning and participating in the orientation program for all TMO’s. The Chief Resident supports the Afterhours Clinical Lead and the TMO Unit to coordinate the after-hours roster.

Key duties of the role

  • This role provides mentorship, pastoral care, and advocacy for Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs), including supporting trainees in difficulty and facilitating critical incident debriefing. It contributes to TMO education, orientation, engagement, and wellbeing, while working collaboratively with stakeholders and the TMO Unit on workforce coordination, rostering, recruitment, and industrial matters.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent) with registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Advanced Paediatric Trainee status with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in paediatrics.
  • Ability to lead, communicate effectively, and work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, resilience under pressure, and commitment to quality care and continuous improvement.
