Lead life-saving care at Flinders Medical Centre as an ICU Consultant, combining cutting-edge critical care with teaching, research, and real impact in a high-performing multidisciplinary team

The Consultant in Intensive Care plays a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings, primarily at Flinders Medical Centre. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Consultant is responsible for coordinating clinical care within a 32-bed Intensive Care Unit, supporting critical services such as ventilatory support, central venous access, and total parenteral nutrition. The role also contributes to Medical Emergency Team coordination, as well as broader departmental priorities including teaching, research, and continuous quality improvement within Intensive Care Medicine across Southern Adelaide.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award
  • High-level clinical expertise in Intensive Care Medicine, with strong judgement and commitment to continuous education and quality improvement
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, collaborate, and foster a respectful multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong commitment to patient-centred, ethical care, alongside experience in teaching, research, and effective service delivery
  • Extensive ICU experience across diverse patient groups, including post-cardiac surgery, ECMO, liver failure/transplant, obstetric, paediatric, and advanced procedural skills such as ultrasound and bronchoscopy.
  • Proven capability in supervising and teaching medical staff, delivering safe, high-quality care aligned with national standards, and contributing to quality improvement and clinical excellence.
