About the Role:

As an Aboriginal Maternal Infant Care Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal women and their families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period within a culturally safe, continuity of care model. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of antenatal, birthing and postnatal care across hospital and community settings, including home visits.

In this role, you will provide cultural support and advocacy, assist families to access services, and support psycho-social wellbeing through referrals and community connections. You will collaborate closely with midwives, doctors and community services, contribute to care planning, and support the delivery of culturally appropriate, evidence-based care. You will also play a key role in promoting culturally safe practices, contributing to service development and supporting a positive, inclusive care environment.

About You:

  • You must have a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (HLT40213); AND
  • You must hold the Maternal and Infant Care Skill Set – Clinical (HLTSS00031) under the Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT50213).
  • You must be registered or eligible for registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia and who hold or be eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • You must have recent experience in delivering Maternal and Infant Care to Aboriginal women in both mainstream and community settings.

Immunisation Risk for this position is - Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)
