Are you seeking a leadership role where you can really make a positive impact? This is an ongoing, full-time role working as a Nurse Consultant within our Ambulatory Services team at the Jamie Larcombe Centre, a veterans’ mental health facility located at Glenside.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Nursing Director, the Nurse Consultant provides a key role in delivering specialised nursing leadership to the multidisciplinary team, together with providing recovery focused, trauma informed and patient centred care for current and former Australian Defence Force members, as well as eligible emergency service personnel.

Some of the key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Undertaking the role with a significant degree of independence and autonomy with regards to clinical decision making
  • Providing leadership and direction, acting as a role model, mentor, consultant and resource person
  • Contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our patient cohort
  • Supporting the multi-disciplinary team with referrals to Ambulatory Services and allocations to clinicians
  • Applying nursing expertise to provide assessment, case management, selecting and implementing different therapeutic interventions and/or support programs to the patient cohort, including evaluating outcomes
  • Effective complex discharge planning / hospital avoidance through the provision of case management, education, equipment, referral and transfer of care
  • Engaging with research including contemporary, evidence-based practice to establish, implement and evaluate programs that support and drive service development
  • Leading the development of, implementation of, and monitoring of policies and processes, including auditing and quality improvement activities

About you:

  • Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold a current practicing certificate
  • Have at least 3 years post registration experience
  • Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice
  • Have effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential
  • Proven ability for flexibility, innovation and creativity
