About the role

The Social Worker delivers psychosocial assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, case management, and therapeutic planning, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies. The Social Worker advocates for patients and supports best‑practice service delivery across the hospital.

Key duties of the role

  • To provide professional Social Work Services to children, adolescents and their families.
  • Psychosocial assessment, counselling, and the implementation of therapeutic intervention plans.
  • Social work response is provided to the following areas: crisis intervention, grief and loss counselling and trauma.
  • Advocating for individual clients and their family.
  • Participation in working parties/committees representing the social work department.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  • Previous experience in working with health and or welfare setting.
  • Previous experience in grief/ loss/bereavement work.
  • Knowledge of the impact of chronic illness, trauma and hospitalisation on children, adolescents and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide written psychosocial assessment and social work interventions.
