About the role

As a Technical Officer (TGO2), you will play a key role in supporting research, operational and project programs through the application of sound technical knowledge and professional judgement. Working either independently or as the leader of a small project team, you will contribute to minor technical projects, ensuring activities are delivered accurately, safely and in line with established standards, procedures and objectives.

In this role, you will draw on your expertise and experience to provide technical leadership and supervision within the team. You will be responsible for assessing the suitability of equipment, procedures and processes, and for preparing clear, well-reasoned reports and recommendations based on technical findings and results. Your work will directly support informed decision-making and the successful delivery of technical outcomes across the program or service.

About You

You are a motivated and technically capable professional who brings relevant laboratory qualifications, practical experience and a strong commitment to quality, safety and service delivery.

  • Qualifications and technical capability: Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a recognised discipline (or equivalent), with demonstrated experience working in a relevant diagnostic or laboratory environment and applying quality principles and procedures.

  • Laboratory and problem-solving expertise: Proven ability to manage variable workloads, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines, troubleshoot issues and resolve problems in accordance with standard laboratory practices.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Well-developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, present information at staff meetings, and work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.

  • Leadership, systems and compliance: Experience supervising and training laboratory staff, working with minimal supervision, using initiative, and applying WHS requirements and a range of computer software to support laboratory operations.
