Food plays a vital role in recovery, comfort and wellbeing. We’re looking for reliable, team-oriented Kitchen Hands to join our catering services team and help deliver safe, high-quality meals to patients across our health service.

This is more than a kitchen role - it’s an opportunity to support frontline healthcare by ensuring patients receive the right meals, at the right time, prepared and delivered safely.

About the Role

As a Kitchen Hand (WHD2), you will contribute to the timely and effective preparation, plating and delivery of meals within the hospital. You will work across kitchen and ward pantry areas and may also support other service areas as required.

Successful applicants must be:

  • Available to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends
  • Flexible to work morning and afternoon shifts, with varying start times and shift lengths
  • Willing to be trained and rostered across all general WHD2 kitchen and ward pantry functions

You will demonstrate a clear understanding of Food Safety standards, infection control principles and safe work practices.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assisting with preparation of breakfasts, soups, gravies and short-order items
  • Plating and delivering meals to wards and patients
  • Receiving, portioning and handling food in accordance with safety standards
  • Supporting menu selection processes and assisting patients as required
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in kitchen and pantry areas
  • Operating equipment and supporting stock control activities

You will also learn and follow requirements relating to:

  • Food allergens and special dietary needs
  • IDDSI texture-modified diets and thickened fluids
  • Safe food handling and infection control protocols

  • Backfilling planned and unplanned leave
  • Assisting with Menu Monitor responsibilities as required
