Call for Expressions of Interest: Two Positions on the South Australian Public Health Council

The South Australian Public Health Council (SAPHC) is a statutory body established under the South Australian Public Health Act 2011. The Council provides expert advice to the Chief Public Health Officer on matters relating to the protection and promotion of public health, strategic planning, workforce development, and public health research.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for two vacant positions:

  1. Member with qualifications in public health
  2. Member with experience in non-government community sector activities relevant to public health

 

About the SAPHC

The SAPHC plays a key advisory role in:

  • Developing and maintaining strategic public health planning at local, regional, and state levels.
  • Supporting the implementation of the State Public Health Plan and Regional Public Health Plans.
  • Advising on standards for authorised officers and promoting public health research.
  • Ensuring a skilled and capable public health workforce.

Eligibility and Expertise

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Qualifications in public health, OR
  • Experience in non-government community sector activities relevant to public health, AND
  • Strong understanding of public health policy and governance, AND
  • Ability to contribute strategically and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary advisory setting.

 

Commitment

Members are nominated by the Minister for Health and Wellbeing for appointment by the Governor for a fixed term of three years. The SAPHC meets approximately four times per year, with additional work as required.

 

Remuneration

SAPHC members are not paid a salary. Remuneration is provided in accordance with Premier and Cabinet circular PC016 Boards and Committees: Remuneration, Governance and Diversity.

Criminal History Screening Requirement

  • A ‘National Police Certificate’ NPC (also known as a ‘Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check’ NCCHC)  for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)

 

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
