About the Opportunity

You will lead clinical documentation improvement initiatives and provide comprehensive education to medical and nursing staff. Your expertise will directly impact patient care quality and ensure accurate clinical coding practices throughout our facilities.

You will be appointed as either:

  • Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist – driving quality and accuracy in clinical documentation to support patient safety and optimal funding outcomes.
  • Clinical Coding & Documentation Auditor/Educator – leading audits, education, and mentoring to ensure coding integrity and compliance with national standards.

To be appointed as a Clinical Coding & Documentation Auditor/Educator, you will have successfully completed a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding Course in ICD-10-AM or equivalent, together with demonstrated advanced competency in ICD-10-AM (current edition) coding.

These roles are pivotal in shaping the future of health information management across NALHN.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with clinicians and coding teams to improve documentation quality and accuracy.
  • Conduct audits and education programs to maintain compliance and optimise Activity Based Funding (ABF).
  • Lead initiatives that enhance data integrity, patient safety reporting, and casemix accuracy.
  • Drive continuous improvement strategies and mentor staff in best practice standards.

About You

You are a detail-oriented, analytical professional with a passion for health information and education.

You bring:

  • Advanced clinical coding expertise (ICD-10-AM) and/or experience in documentation improvement.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to engage clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyse complex data, identify gaps, and implement solutions.
  • Commitment to quality, integrity, and continuous learning.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:

Lyell McEwin Hospital The major hospital in the north and north-east for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics and outpatient services.

Modbury Hospital A general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.

Mental Health - The Division of Mental Health provides a comprehensive range of public mental health services for youth, adults and older people in northern Adelaide. Services are provided through community health centres and hospitals, and to consumers in their own homes. 

Forensic Mental Health - A statewide service that operates as part of the Division of Mental Health for forensic patients and prisoners. 

Community Sites - Elizabeth GP Plus, Modbury GP Plus and Gilles Plains GP Plus Super Clinics providing community based care.
