About the Role

As the Consultant, Central Adelaide Palliative Care Service (CAPCS), you will provide expert clinical leadership and compassionate care across a range of settings including the Royal Adelaide Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, residential aged care facilities, and community environments within the CALHN region. You will play a vital role in ensuring patients and their families receive high-quality, person-centred palliative care that upholds dignity, comfort, and respect during all stages of illness.

In this senior clinical position, you will guide and support multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based, safe, and best-practice palliative care. You will also contribute to the ongoing education and professional development of staff and students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, fostering a learning environment grounded in excellence and empathy. Through your leadership, clinical expertise, and collaborative approach, you will help shape the future of palliative care delivery within Central Adelaide Local Health Network.

About You

You are a compassionate and collaborative medical professional who combines clinical excellence with a strong commitment to patient-centred care. With advanced specialist qualifications and a dedication to continual learning, you bring a balanced mix of leadership, teamwork, and empathy to your work within palliative medicine.

  • Educational/Vocational Qualifications – Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Palliative Medicine subspecialty) or the Chapter of Palliative Medicine, supported by a recognised specialist medical qualification in the relevant field.

  • Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Demonstrated clinical excellence and integrity, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, adapt to change, maintain professionalism, and contribute to quality improvement and patient care initiatives.

  • Experience – Strong background in palliative medicine, with experience participating in multidisciplinary clinical meetings and delivering high-quality care to patients and families within diverse healthcare settings.

  • Knowledge – Comprehensive understanding of clinical standards, policies, and quality improvement principles, alongside sound knowledge of patient rights, family engagement, and ethical clinical practice.
