Overview

As a Paediatric Consultant, you will have the opportunity to deliver exceptional clinical services to paediatric patients, showcasing your expertise while leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of care. You will uphold professional excellence by adhering to Regional, Hospital, and departmental policies, embodying the standards set by the Australasian College for Paediatric Medicine, and making a meaningful impact in your patients' lives.

In this role, you will actively engage in teaching and mentoring trainee medical officers, interns, medical students, and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health staff, inspiring the next generation of healthcare leaders. You will also participate in clinical audits and initiatives focused on quality, safety, and clinical risk management, helping to enhance healthcare practices and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Patient Care: Provide medical services and expert consultations within the Paediatric Unit, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
  • Clinical Leadership: Foster a collaborative team environment by offering clinical leadership and supervising trainee medical officers.
  • Documentation and Communication: Ensure accurate documentation of clinical care in electronic medical records and timely communication with referrers.
  • Administrative Support: Engage in administrative activities related to clinical service provision and assist the Head of Unit in planning and organising services.
  • Community Networking: Develop community networks that support the Unit’s objectives and attend outpatient clinics as required.
  • Emergency Services: Provide after-hours emergency paediatric services and participate in the on-call roster as needed.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Must have a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, with appropriate specialist qualifications, eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing paediatric care within local and regional referral networks.
  • Proven background in managing paediatric patients effectively.
  • Experience in engaging in quality improvement activities to enhance healthcare delivery.
  • Background in research and teaching, contributing to the advancement of paediatric practices and education.
