About the role

As a Senior Bioinformatician, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the delivery of bioinformatics analyses and innovative software solutions that support high-throughput genomic data. Applying your specialist technical expertise, you will lead the implementation and maintenance of genome analysis pipelines that directly support both diagnostic services and research outcomes. Your work will contribute to shaping precision medicine approaches that make a tangible difference in the lives of patients across South Australia.

Collaboration is central to this role. Working closely with SA Pathology leadership, you will partner with clinical, research and technical teams to identify the most efficient and effective methods for delivering bioinformatics and genome analysis pipelines. Your ability to foster strong professional relationships will ensure solutions are tailored to evolving needs, while also supporting the development of best practice frameworks that enhance genomic analysis across the network.

About You

You are a highly skilled bioinformatician with a strong scientific background and a passion for delivering impactful genomic analysis in both diagnostic and research settings. With proven technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, you bring initiative, innovation, and leadership to this complex and evolving field.

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent, supported by extensive experience in bioinformatics and genome analysis.

  • Demonstrated expertise in programming (Python, R, Perl and/or JAVA) with strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, genomic algorithms, and next-generation sequencing platforms.

  • Proven track record in leading complex projects, developing pipelines, integrating large-scale genomic data, and applying advanced problem-solving skills with sound judgement.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience mentoring and supervising others, and the ability to contribute effectively within shared software development frameworks (e.g. GitHub).
