About the role

The Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) will lead SA Health’s strategic procurement and contracts portfolio, overseeing the procurement of services, products, and biomedical equipment with an annual spend of over $3 Billion. Reporting to the Executive Director, Procurement Supply Chain, and Finance, the CPO is responsible for leading the Category Management, Sourcing, and Contract Management teams. This executive role provides strategic oversight of all sourcing and contract management activities across SA Health, including state-wide agreements, dynamic panels, and complex commercial arrangements such as the Royal Adelaide Hospital Public Private Partnership (PPP). The CPO will champion high-performing, compliant, and value-driven procurement that enables health services across SA Health entities, including Local Health Networks, SA Ambulance Service, Preventive Health SA, and the Commission for Excellence and Innovation in Health. A key focus of the role is ensuring that procurement strategies support the delivery of health services, supplier engagement, and long-term health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating the delivery of strategic, complex, high-value, and high-risk procurement and contract management activities.
  • Overseeing the lifecycle sourcing and contracting of services, products, and biomedical equipment, aligned with SA Health's operational and strategic priorities.
  • Providing executive oversight of high-value commercial agreements, including the Royal Adelaide Hospital PPP, through designated senior leadership.
  • Designing and executing category-specific sourcing strategies that drive system-wide value, sustainability, and service innovation.
  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships with internal stakeholders, health leaders, and external partners, including government and industry bodies.
  • Mentoring and managing senior staff across category planning, strategic sourcing, supplier relationships, and contract governance functions.
  • Representing SA Health in interjurisdictional procurement networks and government procurement forums.
