About the role

The Senior Clinician provides expert forensic mental health care and clinical leadership to children, adolescents, and their families involved with the juvenile justice system. The role is responsible for delivering advanced clinical services, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care across CAMHS Forensic services. The Senior Clinician also contributes to service improvement, professional supervision, and care coordination across various clinical and community settings, including Youth Court and Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre.

AHP3 -

Key duties of the role

• Provide, contribute and deliver proficient Forensic and Mental Health clinical care to clients and their families using evidence-based practice.
• Demonstrate commitment to consumer participation, team leadership, and the delivery of culturally responsive services.
• Provide forensic and clinical leadership and expert knowledge to Senior Clinicians  and multidisciplinary staff  for CAMHS  to implement consistency of practice standards and local service outcomes
• Encourage a positive and safe work environment while contributing clinical expertise, supporting a learning culture, and maintaining responsibility for ongoing professional development.
• Contribute clinical expertise to quality improvement initiatives, enhance service delivery, and support research and evaluation programs.

Skills and Experience

• Relevant degree qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy with current professional registration (where applicable)
• Extensive clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and families within a mental health setting
• Demonstrated experience delivering complex assessments and therapeutic interventions using relevant clinical models
• Extensive experience providing clinical supervision and working within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience working within a forensic mental health framework and child/adolescent service

RN3 –

Key duties of the role

• Provides a comprehensive therapeutic assessment, generating a collaborative future treatment plan for clients accessing the CAMHS services
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of corporate policies and processes and lead in their area of expertise.
• Hold a contemporary professional practice portfolio containing evidence of postgraduate qualifications, learning and practice experience that underpin a demonstrable application of knowledge and skills commensurate with the level and type of practice expected of the role.
• Contribute specific expertise to monitor and evaluate research activities in order to improve nursing or midwifery practice and service delivery
• Provides leadership and direction, acts a role model, mentor, consultant and resource person

Skills and Experience

• Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or holds a qualification in mental health practice.
• Demonstrated experience providing mental health nursing assessment and clinical care to children, young people, and families.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and change management skills.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and supervising students or less experienced nursing staff.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, and contemporary mental health nursing practices.
