SALHN – 2026 Staff Specialist – Consultant Neurosurgeon

Join the Neurosurgery Department at Flinders Medical Centre as a part-time, ongoing Consultant Neurosurgeon, delivering specialist care to complex patients across one of South Australia's premier tertiary referral hospitals. You will bring clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team while contributing to the teaching and development of medical students, trainee officers, and allied health staff. A special interest in Epilepsy and Functional Neurosurgery is a distinct advantage in this role that blends hands-on clinical practice with audit, research, and continuous medical education.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing a clinical service to Neurosurgery Department patients, clinical leadership and contributes to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of care

Duties for the role will include:

  • Working harmoniously with all members of the clinical team,
  • Being responsive to the expectations and needs of both clinical and non-clinical colleagues,
  • Providing appropriate specialist level care to patients,
  • Coordinating the follow up care of patients,
  • Providing clinical supervision to Senior Medical Practitioners, Trainee Medical Officers and Medical Students

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award,
  • Broad exposure to General Neurosurgery, with interest in Epilepsy and Functional Neurosurgery,
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in Neurosurgery,
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, leadership and motivational skills,
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team,
  • Demonstrated participation in approved continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification,
  • Experience with the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff,
  • Extensive clinical experience relevant to work in Neurosurgery
