  • Multiple Positions available - Full Time/Part Time - Term Contract
    • As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month placement will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

Paediatric Basic Trainee within SA Paediatric Training Network rotating through general and subspecialty paediatrics across WCH, LMH and FMC. Provides inpatient, outpatient, acute and community-based clinical care while contributing to teaching, education and research within WCHN.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide supervised clinical care across outpatient, inpatient, emergency and procedural settings, including assessment, management and follow-up of paediatric patients.
  • Participate in acute care delivery, including emergency presentations and escalation to senior clinicians, with involvement in trauma and retrieval services where applicable.
  • Contribute to investigations, clinical decision-making, documentation, and coordination of diagnostic and management plans under consultant supervision.
  • Engage in teaching, training, supervision of junior staff, and participation in departmental education programs, rounds and professional development activities.
  • Support research, clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and adherence to patient-centred, safe and compliant clinical practice standards.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent, with eligibility for General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • PGY3+ level experience, including demonstrated exposure to paediatric medicine within a recognised teaching hospital.
  • Strong clinical assessment, problem-solving and decision-making skills relevant to acute and general paediatric care.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
  • Proven ability to manage high workloads and stressful clinical situations while maintaining patient-centred, quality-focused care.
