Working in our dedicated Women and Children's unit, you will provide expert nutritional care to mothers, infants, children, and adolescents. This role combines clinical excellence with professional growth opportunities in one of South Australia's leading healthcare facilities.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Allied Health Service Manager this role is integral to high quality clinical dietetic and nutrition service to patients with Paediatric Diabetes within the Women’s and Children’s Division.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Provide specialised high quality and effective nutritional care, including nutrition assessment and education to both inpatients and outpatients to optimise outcomes within the paediatric diabetes service.
  • Provide appropriate specialised therapeutic diet, and nutrition support for individual patient care through liaison with food services and skills and knowledge in specific diabetes technologies (CGM, CSII).
  • Provide a consultancy service regarding dietetic management of paediatric diabetes to members of clinical team and broader hospital staff, and externally to other service providers in SA and interstate where appropriate.
  • Liaise with SALHN Food Service Dietitians and staff regarding effective provision of therapeutic diets and feeds for patients within area of clinical expertise.
  • Guiding, teaching and evaluating junior dietitians, dietetic students and allied health support staff in the area of nutritional management of paediatric diabetes patients in W&C Division. 
  • Initiate, plan and participate in local and national external activities within paediatric diabetes – e.g. conferences including presenting research, being involved in research, guideline and protocol development, patient information material development.
  • Contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers.

About you:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA).
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in leadership, initiative, problem solving, supervision of staff, flexibility, working independently and within an inter-disciplinary team, managing variable workloads and competing priorities, and adapting to changing service provision needs. 
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including negotiation, consultation and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective networks and partnerships with a broad range of diverse clients and stakeholders, including patients and their families, community services / agencies and other service providers, within a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Experience in the following;
    • Management of paediatric diabetes
    • A leadership role
    • Delivery and assessment of student education and student supervision including placements, projects and research
    • Developing, co-ordinating and completing quality improvement projects and research
