Emergency Department Consultant- Noarlunga Hospital

Join SA Health as a Part-time Emergency Consultant at Noarlunga Hospital, where you will provide expert emergency medical care while leading and mentoring the next generation of emergency medicine practitioners. This ongoing position offers the opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality patient care to the diverse southern Adelaide community. You will contribute to clinical excellence through patient management, quality improvement initiatives, and educational activities in a well-resourced emergency department.

About the role: 

Reporting to the ED Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing clinical services of the highest possible standard to Emergency Department patients at Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga Health Services, both in terms of individual performance and by providing clinical leadership and contribution to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care. The Emergency Consultant is actively involved in teaching medical students and trainee medical officers and where appropriate Nursing and Allied Health. The Emergency Consultant participates in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities and research and continuous medical education activities.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Commitment to the provision of a multidisciplinary approach to clinical care,
  • Providing appropriate specialist level care to patients,
  • Coordinating the follow up care of patients,
  • Providing clinical supervision to Senior Medical Practitioners, Trainee Medical Officers and Medical Students,
  • Participating in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols,
  • Providing appropriate direction and supervision to registrars, resident medical officers and interns

About you:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent qualification.
  • Possess appropriate specialist qualifications - Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM), and be eligible for or currently hold Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, or meet the criteria of the SA Medical Officers Award.
  • Demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice, supported by extensive experience and broad medical expertise across diverse disciplines relevant to Emergency Medicine.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development with a proven track record of participation in accredited continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification.
  • Experienced in supervising and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, supporting their professional growth.
