About the role

Operational Services Officer Level 1

As a Pre-Analytical Operational Services Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by delivering high-quality customer service and ensuring specimens are collected, prepared, and managed accurately and efficiently. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for phlebotomy, specimen collection and handling, accurate data entry into laboratory information systems, and assisting with the storage and transport of specimens under defined conditions. With close direction and ongoing training provided, this role offers an excellent opportunity to build your skills and contribute to timely diagnosis and treatment for patients.

Operational Services Officer Level 2

As a Pre-Analytical Operational Services Officer, you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Pre-Analytical Services team by providing high-quality customer service and patient care across phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen management. You will be responsible for ensuring specimens are accurately prepared, stored, and transported under defined conditions, while maintaining precise data entry into laboratory information systems to support timely diagnosis and treatment. This role requires you to handle both internal and external customer enquiries professionally, manage workflows effectively, and play a key part in delivering quality outcomes within a dynamic healthcare environment.

About You

You are a motivated and reliable team player with excellent communication skills and a strong customer service focus. With accuracy and attention to detail, you’ll contribute to the effective delivery of pre-analytical services, ensuring high-quality specimen collection, preparation, and data entry to support patient diagnosis and treatment. You bring sound computer literacy, a commitment to confidentiality, and the ability to prioritise and adapt in a busy healthcare environment. While prior experience in pathology or hospital specimen collection is highly regarded (and essential for OPS2), enthusiasm to learn, reliability, and a proactive approach are equally valued.

Key requirements:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to support patients and staff
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, prioritise tasks, and maintain accuracy
  • Demonstrated reliability, sound computer literacy, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Experience in pathology/hospital specimen collection and LIS/NATA knowledge (desirable/required for OPS2)
