About the Role

As the Upper GI Service Registrar at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, you will play a key role in managing the care of patients under the Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Unit. You will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including the timely review of referrals from the Emergency Department and other specialty units. Working closely with the Consultant Surgeons, Fellows, and Senior Registrars, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality surgical care within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will also include assisting in theatre, providing ongoing ward-based management of emergency surgical patients, and participating in after-hours rosters as required. In addition to your clinical duties, you will actively contribute to teaching, supervision of junior medical staff, and quality improvement initiatives within the Upper GI Unit. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your surgical expertise in a specialised Upper GI setting while playing a vital part in patient care and clinical excellence.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, with current General Registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, with sound analytical skills and the ability to adapt to change and make effective clinical decisions.

  • Strong understanding of hospital systems, quality improvement principles, patient rights, and workplace safety, including relevant health policies and legislation.
