Redefine Patient Care and join us in a Hepatology Fellow Role 2026 with SALHN!

The Hepatology Fellow will be involved in Hepatology and Liver Transplant inpatient and outpatient services (including 3 outpatient clinics per week), endoscopy and on-call roster commitments. You will also be involved in Gastroenterology, HCC and Liver Transplant MDTs. The role will include participation in the strong research focus of the unit and involve clinical trial work. It is suitable for a Gastroenterology/Hepatology trainee with an interest in Hepatology who has completed at least two years of core advanced training in Gastroenterology.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Head of Unit Hepatology, you will assist in the provision of a high quality hepatology and liver transplant medicine service to patients in the wards and outpatients. 

  • Assistance in the provision and supervision of Endoscopic procedures to patients in Flinders Medical Centre and elsewhere in Southern Adelaide Local Health Network
  • Attend 3 clinics a week in hepatology and liver transplant under the supervision of a consultant hepatologist
  • Participate in the education and training of the junior medical staff and to participate in undergraduate clinical teaching when required
  • To assist in the day to day management of hepatology and liver transplant patients, including inpatients
  • To contribute to consultations for non-urgent inpatients within the Southern Adelaide Local Health network

About you:

  • Experience in providing clinical services at a level commensurate with final year of training in gastroenterology and hepatology
  • Commitment to clinical audit, and commitment and participation in continuing medical education
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and ability to supervisor more junior medical staff
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues and other professional staff, proficient in written and spoken English

Please note: This position is multi-classed as MDP2 or MDP3 and classification will be determined by experience and/or qualifications. 

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.

Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as a Hepatology Fellow will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.
