About the role
As the Genetic Pathologist, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, contemporary laboratory services within the Genetics and Molecular Pathology (GMP) Directorate. Your expertise will directly support accurate diagnostic reporting and interpretation across oncology, haematology, and clinical genetics, ensuring patients receive timely and effective care.
In this specialised position, you will also contribute to SA Pathology’s broader clinical engagement, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate advanced genetic and molecular insights into clinical practice. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a leading diagnostic service, driving innovation and excellence in personalised medicine.
About You
You are an experienced and forward-thinking Genetic Pathologist with deep expertise across cytogenetics, germline and somatic mutation analysis, and prenatal testing. You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and you’re adept at working collaboratively in complex clinical and laboratory settings.

Extensive experience in genetic pathology, including next generation sequencing, cytogenetics, and high-throughput genetic testing.

Proven ability to assess laboratory quality, deliver innovative tests, and apply expert judgement to genetic diagnostics.

Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and manage sensitive clinical issues.

Sound knowledge of laboratory management, accreditation standards (e.g., NATA), and the regulatory environment for pathology services.
