With the expansion and upcoming opening of our brand new six-bed Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (ED SSU), Mount Gambier & District Health Service is entering an exciting new phase in how we deliver care.

This development is a vital step in meeting the growing demand across both Emergency and inpatient services. ED SSUs are well-established across Australia and are proven to:

  • Improve patient flow
  • Reduce unnecessary hospital admissions
  • Enhance patient outcomes

About the role:

As a Registered Nurse/Midwife in the Emergency Department Short Stay Unit, you will provide high-quality care in a fast-paced clinical environment. You will develop from a novice to a proficient practitioner, consolidating your knowledge and skills through hands-on experience and ongoing professional development. You will be accountable for your own clinical standards and the safe delegation of care, ensuring a consistently high level of person-centred service within the dynamic ED/SSU setting.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, with a current practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated competence in emergency or acute nursing practice, in accordance with professional standards.
  • A flexible, team-focused approach with a strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Enthusiasm for learning, innovation, and delivering excellent care in a high-energy setting.
