    • As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month placement will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

Under consultant supervision, as the Advanced Trainee, you will provide clinical services of the highest possible standards predominantly with an obstetric focus. This position is designed to meet the training requirements of advanced RANZCOG trainees and you will undertake a variety of duties including exposure to both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced healthcare professionals, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship in a supportive learning environment.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide supervised clinical care across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings, with a strong focus on obstetric, gynaecological, neonatal, and acute patient management.
  • Perform and support clinical procedures and investigations appropriate to training level, including obstetric, gynaecological, and emergency procedures under consultant supervision.
  • Coordinate patient-centred care by involving patients in care planning, ensuring effective communication, discharge planning, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
  • Supervise and educate junior medical staff (TMOs) while actively contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and departmental teaching and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to research, clinical audit, and quality improvement initiatives while supporting a safe, collaborative, and positive workplace culture aligned with clinical governance and WHS requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent with current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Trainee Medical Officer in a recognised teaching hospital, including experience as an Advanced Trainee.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and practical skills across Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including emergency and inpatient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, communicate with patients, families, and staff, and manage high-pressure clinical environments.
  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, and resilience skills, with commitment to patient-centred care, quality improvement, and ongoing professional development.
